Burroughs B6700 OS
(too old to reply)

Hi all,

I received the following message on the TUHS (The Unix Heritage Society)
mailing list, and I suppose they sent it there as a long shot even
though it's not UNIX, since there are a lot of greybeards there. I
replied recommending to post here, but I haven't seen any posts from
them, so I'll reproduce it here:

----------

There's so much experience here, I thought someone might know:

"Our goal is to develop an emulator for the Burroughs B6700 system. We
need help to find a complete release of MCP software for the Burroughs
B6700.

If you have old magnetic tapes (magtapes) in any format, or computer
printer listings of software or micro-fiche, micro-film, punched-card
decks for any Burroughs B6000 or Burroughs B7000 systems we would like
to hear from you.

Email ***@retroComputingTasmania.com"

----------

I know we have at least one newsgroup member who worked for Burroughs in
the 1980s - any input?

Best regards,
Niklas

Only that I'm also looking for old software for the B3500/B4700/V380 (aka medium)
systems.... I've been in touch with the large systems folks down-under.

B6700 descends from the B5500 line.

Old burroughs software is difficult to find. I did hear about someone
finding some B220 software recently.

One of the first computers I ever used, my school had one = B6900 with
crap tons of terminals everywhere on campus. I actually liked that
machine a lot once I got a hold of the manuals NOT published by the
school for what I would assume were school admin workers and actually
figured out how to use that system instead of the idiotic menu that
everyone got with normal accounts when they logged in.

I started to think “someone in Tasmania is working on this”, and then
noticed that it was their question. The 5500 MCP source is available, but
the 6700 is a different beastie.

I also am looking for complete binary or source for B6700 MCP. I also would like to do an emulator for this machine. I have done one for the B5500. Please forward anything you find to me.

.
The University of Tasmania used to run a B6700.
I have a hardware reference manual somewhere.
Richard Watkins was a contact there, might have something.
